Do I need to update my elections each month?
Monthly elections are automatically persisted each month. You are not required to update your elections each month unless you want to make a change.
I’m a new employee - when am I eligible to make a commuter benefits election?
As long as you are eligible for pre-tax commuter benefits as determined by your employer, you can make or change your election anytime between the 1st and the 15th of each month.
When do I need to make my elections?
Elections must be made between first of the month and before 11:59pm PST on the 15th of the month to be available for the following month.
What happens if I elect more than the IRS pre-tax limit of $280?
If your total election amount (employer subsidy + employee contribution) exceeds the IRS pre-tax limit of $280, the additional amount will be treated as taxable. To determine how much of your election is treated as taxable, please view the pre-tax calculator table, which is available on the page when making your elections.
Will my benefits carry over each month?
Yes, any unused benefits will carry over into the next month.
What happens if I cancel my election?
If you cancel your election, your card will remain active and you can spend down any remaining funds on eligible expenses. However, leaving the employer will forfeit any existing funds.
What happens to the funds on my card if I switch from the Commuter Transit Card to the Commuter Parking Card?
If you decide to switch your election from the Commuter Transit Card to Commuter Parking Card or vice versa, you will be able to spend down the remaining balance on your initial card for eligible expenses. However, leaving the employer will forfeit any existing funds.
What happens if I leave the company?
Upon leaving the company, you will forfeit all of the remaining balance on your Commuter Card and your card will be terminated on the next 15th of the month.
What happens if I go on a Leave of Absence?
If you are on an official company Leave of Absence, you may not be eligible for Commuter Benefits during your leave. Depending on your company's policy, any existing balance on your Commuter Card may be lost. Please work with your HR team to determine your specific benefits eligibility during your Leave of Absence.
